FRANCIS CREEK, Wis. (June 11, 2024) – A regular at 141 Speedway’s Clash at the Creek since 2018, Tim Ward could recall “hanging around for a while” before falling back and out of contention in his best prior outing in the Francis Creek.
That changed Tuesday night as Ward took charge after midway of the 50-lapper for Friesen Performance IMCA Modifieds, earning $10,000 and his career 99thvictory in the class.
“This is such a tough place to win,” Ward acknowledged, after matching career-best paydays from the 2021 Land of 10,000 Lakes Tour finale and last year’s IMCA Speedway Motors Super Nationals fueled by Casey’s main event.
“I was one of the favorites here last year, started 13th, got up to sixth and just ran out of time,” he said. “This time I had a really good race with Jake (McBirnie) the first half. It reminded me of Super Nationals – we raced really hard.”
The one caution flew on lap 27. Ward beat Benji LaCrosse … winner of Tuesday’s IMCA Sunoco Stock Car feature … to the stripe by 1.4 seconds.
“He always runs really good here,” Ward said of LaCrosse. “He’s a master of this place.”
Dylan Thornton, Jordan Grabouski and Joel Rust completed the top five.
Seventy-nine Modifieds vied Tuesday night. Ward had gone into the night tied with his father Rick for 70thplace on the all-time wins list for the division.
“It was pretty cool to be tied with my dad,” said Ward, who began his racing career in his native state of Arizona before relocating to Iowa. “As a kid starting in go-karts, that was something I never thought I’d do.”
Stock Car winner LaCrosse and Friesen Performance IMCA Northern SportMod winner Cory Kemkes both earned $1,000 for those efforts.

Thornton repeats at 141 Clash with big IMCA Modified payday
FRANCIS CREEK, Wis. (June 20) – The much-traveled Ricky Thornton Jr. made another stop in victory lane Thursday night, this time at the end of a $10,000 payday. Thornton led the last 45 of the 50 laps in repeating as winner of the Clash at the Creek main event for IMCA Modifieds at 141 Speedway. “This event is definitely near the top of my list of wins. It’s huge,” he said. “The track fits my driving style and there were a lot of good cars here. Realistically, everyone in the feature had a shot to win it.” Pole starter Terry Phillips was second and 13thstarting Hunter Marriott ended in third. Rounding out the top five were Jordan Grabouski and Tim Ward. Hard charger Joey Taycher took the initial green flag last in the field of 24 and finished 10th. Drivers can pre-register for the Aug. 18-19 special at Francis Creek for $115 using thehttps://www.myracepass.com/tracks/3061/registrations/4354link; entry fee is $120 on Wednesday. Top 10 drivers in points after qualifying on Wednesday will redraw for position on Thursday. Gates open at 3 p.m. and racing starts at 6 p.m. both Aug. 18 and 19. Pit passes are $30 both days. Whitman is a hit at 141’s IMCA Clash at the Creek
FRANCIS CREEK, Wis. (June 17) – The IMCA Modified driver they call ‘The Hitman’ was a big hit with his 141 Speedway fans Thursday night. Johnny Whitman took the lead following a lap 10 restart and led Mike Mullen around the oval at Francis Creek the last 40 green flag, lightning fast times around the track in taking the $10,000 Clash at the Creek win. “I’ve been wanting to do this for 13 years,” he said from victory lane. “It’s crazy, the amount of competition that’s here.
